Requirements / The Challenge:

Creating a custom his and hers dressing room in a newly built home is a unique opportunity to design a functional yet beautiful space. The client approached WalkInWardrobes.ie with a clear vision for their bedroom – they wanted a dressing room that was elegant, well-organized, and clutter-free. This was to be a high-end addition to their new home that would cater to the needs of two people with different clothing requirements while maintaining a sense of calm and order.

The primary challenges of the project included:

  1. Maximizing storage while maintaining a minimalistic design: The dressing room needed to be spacious enough for both individuals to have their own dedicated storage, while still feeling open and uncluttered.
  2. Effective use of space: The design needed to make efficient use of the space available, especially in terms of offering both hanging storage and drawer-based solutions that could store all the clothing and accessories the client desired.
  3. Cohesion with the rest of the home: Since this was a part of a newly built home, the dressing room needed to tie in seamlessly with the rest of the bedroom and overall aesthetic of the house. The color scheme and materials chosen had to complement the existing décor while adding elegance and luxury to the room.
  4. User-friendly organization: The client wanted the wardrobe system to make their daily routine as efficient as possible, with accessible storage for folded items, hanging clothes, and accessories. Every item should have its place without creating visual clutter.

Given these requirements, WalkInWardrobes.ie took a comprehensive approach to ensure that the solution was both practical and aesthetic—an elegant, easy-to-use space that would stand the test of time.

Our Solution / Project Description:

The project was designed around the idea of a functional yet beautiful space that would suit the client’s lifestyle and needs. Every detail was tailored to ensure that the his and hers dressing areas were organized, spacious, and visually appealing. The design was centered around clean lines, with everything neatly tucked away behind doors to maintain a sleek and uncluttered appearance. The solution was a combination of wardrobe storage, drawers, open shelving, and mirrored panels to create a versatile space that allowed for ease of access and effective organization.

Linen Press Design for Easy Access and Storage

To optimize the space, we integrated the concept of a linen press into the design. This type of setup features open shelving and drawers that are directly accessible without the need to open doors first, making it incredibly easy for the clients to organize their clothes and accessories. For their foldable items, a combination of shelves above and drawers below created a logical storage system that allowed the clients to start their day in an organized way. The linen press arrangement kept the items neatly stored and easy to access without making the room feel cramped or cluttered.

This clever storage system was tailored to maximize the available space, making sure every item—whether it was clothes, shoes, or accessories—had a designated spot. By grouping folded items on one side and hanging garments on the other, we provided ample storage for the client while ensuring that the design remained visually clean and organized.

Combination of Hanging Space and Drawers

On one side of the room, we included long and short hanging rails, catering to the needs of both clients. One side was dedicated to full-length hanging, ideal for dresses, coats, and other long garments, while the other side was optimized for shorter hanging clothes like shirts, jackets, and trousers. This combination of hanging space and drawers allowed for flexible storage options, ensuring that each client could store their clothing in a manner that suited their habits.

In addition to the hanging storage, we incorporated soft-closing drawers, which ensured smooth operation while maintaining a quiet and elegant feel. These drawers were used to store smaller clothing items, such as sweaters, jeans, or accessories, keeping everything neatly organized.

Dressing Mirrors Tucked Away

We understood the client’s need for a dressing mirror in the room but also wanted to maintain a clean aesthetic. To solve this, we included mirrored panels that were cleverly integrated into the wardrobe’s design. These mirrors were tucked away inside the wardrobe, providing a practical solution for the clients to use when getting ready but without making the room feel overrun with reflective surfaces.

Minimalistic Framework and Elegant Design Details

The overall design was focused on maintaining clean lines and a minimalist aesthetic. This was achieved through the use of minimal framework, which kept the wardrobe looking sleek and contemporary. The understated cornice and chunky end panels were additional touches that the client loved, offering a modern, subtle elegance to the wardrobe. These design elements helped provide a luxurious feel without overwhelming the space.

To enhance the overall look and functionality, we added rechargeable LED motion-activated lighting. These lights provided soft illumination when needed, making it easier for the clients to access their clothes, especially in the evenings. The motion sensors meant that the lights would automatically turn on when the wardrobe doors were opened, creating an energy-efficient and practical solution.

Color Scheme: Soft Grey and Light Oak

One of the standout features of this project was the carefully chosen color scheme. The client opted for a soft grey and light oak palette, which created a serene and elegant atmosphere. The soft grey tones were used for the wardrobe interior, creating a light and airy feeling inside the dressing room, while the light oak finish was used for the wardrobe’s exterior and panels, offering a subtle yet luxurious feel. This combination of colors allowed the dressing room to blend beautifully with the rest of the home while also providing warmth and elegance.

The colors not only looked stunning but also made the space feel more open and calming, providing the perfect environment for getting dressed every morning. The soft grey allowed the other elements, such as the oak panels and mirrors, to stand out while maintaining an overall cohesive look.

Wood Used

The selection of materials for this bespoke project was a critical aspect of ensuring durability, functionality, and aesthetic appeal.

  • White Melamine Chipboard: The interior of the wardrobe was constructed using white melamine chipboard, chosen for its sleek appearance and durability. This material is known for its smooth surface, ease of cleaning, and resistance to scratches, making it a perfect choice for wardrobe interiors.
  • Light Oak Veneer: The wardrobe’s exterior was finished in light oak veneer, a natural wood material that adds warmth and texture to the space. The oak veneer also provided the perfect balance between a modern aesthetic and the timeless appeal of wood, bringing a touch of sophistication to the room.
  • Fibrapan MDF: For the door frames and shelving, we used Fibrapan MDF, a moisture-resistant material that is both sturdy and versatile. It provided the strength needed for the wardrobe’s structural components while also offering a smooth, paintable surface that took the custom color finish beautifully.

Together, these materials created a wardrobe system that was not only functional and long-lasting but also aesthetically stunning, blending seamlessly with the client’s desired style and the existing décor of the home.
