Requirements / The Challenge:

This project involved a bungalow built in the early 2000s, located in the scenic County Kerry. The client approached us with the desire to modernize their master bedroom and create a fresh, more functional wardrobe system. While the existing wardrobe space was adequate, it was outdated and didn’t meet the client’s needs in terms of organization or visual appeal. The room itself had a relatively simple layout, but the wardrobes had not been updated in many years, leaving the client feeling that the space lacked both style and practicality.

The primary challenge of this project was to completely transform the wardrobe area, replacing the outdated units with a modern, bespoke solution that would both maximize storage space and blend seamlessly into the room’s existing aesthetic. The client wanted a wardrobe that would give the bedroom a fresh look, while maintaining a sense of simplicity, elegance, and functionality.

Additionally, the client’s needs were specific: they desired a wardrobe system that would allow them to store clothing, shoes, accessories, and other personal items in an organized, accessible way. The new design would need to be sophisticated yet practical, blending contemporary features with quality finishes to ensure that the wardrobe served as both a functional storage solution and a stylish feature in the bedroom.

Given that the wardrobe had to be installed in an existing space, maximizing the available space and ensuring that the design enhanced the room’s layout were key priorities. With these goals in mind, we embarked on the challenge of creating a wardrobe that would bring a breath of fresh air into the room.

Our Solution / Project Description:

Our team at WalkInWardrobes.ie took the time to thoroughly understand the client’s needs and developed a design that would not only meet but exceed their expectations. The goal was to remove the dated wardrobes and replace them with a contemporary, sophisticated system that would maximize storage while providing easy access to everything the client needed.

Demolition of the Outdated Wardrobes

The first step in the project was to remove the old, worn-out wardrobes. The previous system, while functional in its time, was a clear departure from the modern design the client was looking for. Our team carefully dismantled the existing units to ensure that the integrity of the surrounding room was preserved. We removed the old cabinets, repainted the walls, and made sure the space was ready for the installation of the new wardrobe system.

Once the room was prepped and cleared of the old wardrobe, we could start planning the new installation.

Designing a Bespoke, Wall-to-Wall Sliding Wardrobe

We designed a bespoke wall-to-wall sliding wardrobe to maximize the available space. This custom-built solution not only provided ample storage but also added a sophisticated, modern look to the room. The full-length sliding doors were a key feature of the design, as they created a sleek, seamless look that minimized the visual impact of the wardrobe while maintaining easy access to its contents.

The sliding doors were fitted with a beautiful pearl white glass finish, which complemented the light, airy tones of the bedroom while adding a touch of elegance and modernity. The Evoke Champagne frame around the glass doors gave the wardrobe a high-end, luxurious feel, while maintaining a contemporary and minimalist aesthetic. This combination of colors and finishes helped the wardrobe blend effortlessly into the room while making it a stylish focal point.

Optimizing the Interior Layout for Maximum Storage

Inside the wardrobe, the design was optimized to provide the client with plenty of storage space without sacrificing accessibility. The wardrobe featured a mix of hanging sections, shelving, and drawers, ensuring that all types of clothing and personal items could be neatly organized and easily accessed.

One of the standout features of this wardrobe was the reclining clothes lift, which was installed to make it easier for the client to store and retrieve heavier garments, such as coats or formal wear, at a higher level in the wardrobe. The lift system is designed to lower the clothes within easy reach and then raise them back up, allowing the wardrobe to maintain a clean, clutter-free look while still offering ample storage for long clothing items.

The rest of the interior was divided into sections of adjustable shelving for shoes, handbags, and other accessories. Drawers were added to the bottom sections for storing smaller items such as scarves, belts, and hats, ensuring that everything had its place. The mix of shelving, hanging space, and drawers allowed the client to maintain an organized, clutter-free wardrobe while having quick and easy access to their clothes and accessories.

Creating a Clean, Minimalist Aesthetic

The overall design of the wardrobe adhered to the clean lines and minimalist aesthetic that the client wanted for their bedroom. The sliding doors, with their smooth, white glass panels and subtle champagne-colored frame, allowed the wardrobe to integrate seamlessly into the room’s decor without overwhelming the space.

The interior of the wardrobe featured white timber surrounds, which provided a crisp, clean look and complemented the light, neutral color scheme of the room. The timber was chosen for its durability and timeless appeal, ensuring that the wardrobe would stand the test of time both in terms of style and function.

The use of simple, elegant finishes ensured that the wardrobe remained the focal point of the room without detracting from the overall feel of the space. The wardrobe’s layout and design emphasized openness and accessibility, making the room feel more spacious and airy.

Wood Used

For this project, we selected a combination of premium wood finishes that would enhance the wardrobe’s design while ensuring long-lasting durability.

White Timber

The interior of the wardrobe featured white timber surrounds, chosen for its clean, modern look and ability to match a variety of decor styles. White timber is also an ideal choice for maximizing the perception of space, as it reflects light and contributes to a brighter, airier atmosphere within the wardrobe.

The white timber was used for the frame and surrounding areas, providing a solid base for the wardrobe’s shelves, hanging sections, and drawers. The lightness of the wood balanced out the darker tones of the floor and other room elements, creating a harmonious aesthetic.

Ivory Surround

The surrounding areas of the wardrobe, including the outer frame, were finished in ivory, which added a touch of warmth to the design. The ivory finish complemented the light, neutral tones of the white timber, creating a refined yet soft contrast that made the wardrobe feel inviting and stylish. The ivory finish was subtle enough to blend seamlessly with the room’s decor, but it also provided enough of a contrast to add interest and depth to the overall design.
