Requirements / The Challenge:

In this particular project, the space was a small box room that had very little functionality or utility. The clients were eager to transform this underused room into a luxurious and organized walk-in wardrobe to maximize their storage needs and create a space that was both functional and stylish. The primary challenge in this project was working with a relatively small room size and transforming it into an efficient, elegant walk-in wardrobe that could accommodate the clients’ growing clothing and accessory collection.

Box rooms often have several inherent challenges, especially when converting them into a wardrobe. The limited floor space, lack of natural light, and the need to accommodate a variety of storage elements, such as long hanging garments, short hanging, drawers, and shelves, require careful planning and innovative design solutions. In addition, the clients had specific requirements: they wanted a wardrobe that offered easy access to clothing and accessories, with designated spaces for shoes, hanging garments, and folded clothes.

Another challenge was ensuring that the walk-in wardrobe felt spacious and open, despite being in a relatively compact room. The solution had to balance aesthetic appeal with practical functionality—the room needed to feel comfortable and airy while providing enough storage space to keep the clients’ clothing organized and accessible.

Lastly, the room’s lack of natural light posed an additional challenge. As a box room typically has fewer windows, it was crucial to design the space in a way that maximized the light available, while also incorporating elements to make the space feel bright, open, and welcoming.

Our Solution / Project Description:

At WalkInWardrobes.ie, we pride ourselves on our ability to transform spaces, no matter how small or unconventional, into functional and aesthetically pleasing rooms. This box room presented us with the perfect opportunity to showcase our expertise in custom storage solutions.

The solution we designed was a fully tailored walk-in wardrobe that made the most of the available space while offering a high level of functionality. Our goal was to create a wardrobe that felt spacious, despite the room’s size, while also incorporating distinct zones for different storage needs. We created a layout that maximized every inch of space, using a combination of hanging areas, drawers, and shelves.

To start, we included a long hanging section for the clients’ longer items, such as dresses, coats, and trousers. This feature allowed the clients to store these garments neatly without having to worry about them getting wrinkled or damaged. Beneath the long hanging section, we added two shoe drawers at the bottom. These drawers were designed to accommodate a range of shoes, from boots to sandals, while keeping them organized and out of sight, maintaining the sleek, clean aesthetic of the wardrobe.

The middle section of the wardrobe featured a shelf stack that acted as the perfect storage solution for folded clothes, bags, and other accessories. This central area provided the perfect balance of open storage, offering easy access to clothing while keeping everything neatly arranged. The shelf stack created additional space for items that didn’t need to be hung up, such as sweaters, t-shirts, or scarves. This layout provided a functional yet visually appealing approach to organizing the wardrobe.

On the opposite side of the walk-in wardrobe, we included ten drawers that were ideally suited for smaller items, such as jewelry, scarves, and underwear. These drawers not only helped maintain order and organization within the wardrobe, but they also allowed the clients to easily access their belongings. With the inclusion of both short hanging sections and drawers, the wardrobe catered to the clients’ need for versatile storage options.

Additionally, the wardrobe was designed with a clear flow and accessibility in mind. The layout allowed the clients to move through the space with ease, accessing all sections of the wardrobe without difficulty. With strategically placed storage elements, the design maximized the usable space without making the room feel crowded or cramped. We also incorporated an open design to avoid bulky, closed storage that could make the room feel smaller.

The all-white finish of the wardrobe added to the sense of openness and light within the room. White is a perfect choice for small spaces because it reflects light, making the room feel more expansive and airy. It also provided a clean, timeless look that complemented the clients’ existing decor. The minimalistic color scheme contributed to a sleek and modern aesthetic, making the walk-in wardrobe feel both sophisticated and contemporary.

Another design element we focused on was lighting. Since box rooms are often smaller and lack natural light, we incorporated soft LED strip lighting along the shelves and inside the drawers. This not only illuminated the space but also added a touch of luxury, making the wardrobe feel more welcoming and functional. The lighting made it easier for the clients to find their clothing, even in a room that had limited natural light. It also helped enhance the overall look of the wardrobe, adding depth and creating an inviting atmosphere.

To ensure durability and longevity, we used only the highest quality materials. Each section of the wardrobe was crafted with precision and attention to detail, ensuring that it was both aesthetically pleasing and built to last. The interior of the wardrobe was designed to meet the specific needs of the clients, with a focus on maximizing storage capacity while maintaining a polished, cohesive look.

Wood Used

For this project, we used a combination of high-quality materials to create a wardrobe that was not only functional but also visually appealing. The all-white design was chosen for its ability to create a sense of openness, making the room feel brighter and more spacious. The white finish worked harmoniously with the clean lines and modern design elements, giving the walk-in wardrobe a timeless and elegant appearance. The interior of the wardrobe was finished with white timber, which helped brighten the room and create a seamless, airy environment. White is a versatile color that can complement any interior style, and in this case, it helped reflect light and made the room feel larger than it was. The all-white interior also ensured that the wardrobe felt clean and organized, with every item standing out clearly. For the drawers and shelving units, we used high-quality white laminate, which is durable, easy to clean, and resistant to wear. This material was chosen not only for its practicality but also for its sleek appearance. The smooth finish and sharp edges of the laminate contributed to the wardrobe's minimalist design while providing a durable, long-lasting storage solution. The hardware used in the wardrobe, such as the handles and drawer pulls, was chosen to match the clean, modern aesthetic of the design. The sleek, simple handles complemented the overall design, offering functionality without drawing attention away from the wardrobe's clean lines. The soft-close mechanism on the drawers ensured that the wardrobe would remain silent and smooth in operation, contributing to the luxury feel of the space. The materials used in this wardrobe project were chosen not only for their visual appeal but also for their durability and ease of maintenance. The high-quality finishes were carefully selected to withstand daily use while maintaining their elegance over time.
