Requirements / The Challenge:

This project posed a unique and intricate challenge due to the limitations of space. The client came to us with a dormer room that had a sloped ceiling, which is common in many attic conversions and upper-floor spaces. The slant of the roof reduced the available vertical height and made it difficult to create a functional and aesthetically pleasing wardrobe solution. This restricted the types of storage solutions we could use.

The primary challenge was to make the most of the awkward, angled space while also ensuring the storage system remained practical and stylish. Traditional wardrobe designs weren’t going to work in such a confined area. The client needed a way to maximize storage without compromising on design or utility. Additionally, the client requested a sleek and modern appearance, so the wardrobe needed to incorporate clean lines and a contemporary look, while still offering ample storage for clothing and accessories.

We had to find a way to integrate the wardrobe into the space without clashing with the dormer’s design. The solution required both innovative design thinking and custom craftsmanship to address these complex spatial challenges. The wardrobe needed to appear seamless within the room’s architecture, and the storage areas had to be designed to take full advantage of the available dimensions. We also had to consider the comfort and usability of the space, making sure everything was accessible and easy to use.

The client also had specific style preferences. They wanted a modern, minimalist design with plenty of mirror surfaces to open up the room and make it appear larger, despite the space constraints. The wardrobe had to blend into the room’s decor, which was light and airy with neutral tones. Given the tricky angle of the roof, we had to be creative with the placement of sliding doors, shelves, and drawers. The objective was to create a practical and beautiful wardrobe system that could adapt to the unique needs of this dormer room.

Our Solution / Project Description:

After carefully analyzing the space and listening closely to the client’s desires, we crafted a custom wardrobe solution that worked within the limits of the dormer’s slope. The final design utilized a two-door sliding wardrobe system, which is perfect for rooms with limited floor space as it eliminates the need for doors to swing open. This maximized the available floor area, which is crucial in a room where every inch counts.

The wardrobe doors themselves were framed with an elegant and sleek Evoke Silver frame. This not only contributed to the modern aesthetic but also added a touch of sophistication and light reflection. The mirrored surface of the doors helps visually expand the room, making it feel more open and airy—an essential element for a space with a sloped ceiling.

Internally, we created a highly functional design with a combination of drawers, hanging space, and continuous shelving that runs along the top of the wardrobe. This was a crucial part of the design, as the shelf system provided the client with much-needed storage without intruding on the already cramped space. The top shelves were designed to stretch across the width of the wardrobe, providing a convenient area to store items that are less frequently used, such as luggage, seasonal clothing, or decorative items.

The drawers below the hanging space offered easy access to everyday items like shoes, accessories, and folded clothes. By dividing the storage into sections and using a combination of hanging rails and drawers, we ensured that the wardrobe was as functional as it was stylish.

The angled pelmet we installed along the top of the wardrobe aligned precisely with the slope of the roof, allowing us to hide the top track for the sliding doors. This not only kept the design clean but also ensured that the doors slid effortlessly despite the unique angle of the roof. The pelmet was custom-made to match the angle of the roofline, ensuring that the top track of the wardrobe system was both hidden and functional.

We used high-quality materials throughout to ensure that the wardrobe was built to last while looking great for years to come. The sliding doors, which could be a challenge to fit into such a confined space, were expertly installed to glide smoothly, with the pelmet concealing the upper track completely.

This wardrobe system exemplifies the ability to take a difficult space and transform it into a fully-functional, beautiful, and integrated design. The result is a wardrobe that complements the architectural features of the dormer while providing the client with ample storage space, seamless functionality, and a modern aesthetic that fits perfectly into their home.

Wood Used

For this project, we used a combination of wood finishes to complement the clean and modern design aesthetic. The interior and surround of the wardrobe were finished in white, which helps brighten up the space and maintain a light, airy feel. The white finish also allows the Evoke Silver mirror frames on the sliding doors to stand out, creating a balance of materials that’s both striking and elegant.

The shelving units were crafted using a blend of high-quality MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard), which is durable and provides a smooth, even surface. The result was an overall clean and contemporary look that aligned with the client’s vision while ensuring that the wardrobe would stand up to everyday use. The sliding mechanism used in the wardrobe was carefully chosen for its durability and smooth operation, ensuring that the wardrobe would function flawlessly over time.

The wood used for the doors and other key elements was carefully selected for both its aesthetic appeal and long-term durability. The quality of the materials reflects our commitment to providing only the best for our clients, ensuring that the wardrobe not only looks great but also performs exceptionally well over time.
