Requirements / The Challenge:

In this project, we were tasked with transforming a small, underutilized box room into a fully functional, stylish walk-in wardrobe for a client in County Kerry. The room, measuring only 10 feet by 8 feet, posed significant spatial limitations, demanding both innovation and careful planning.

The challenge was to maximize the available space while creating a seamless, luxurious environment for storing clothes and accessories. The client desired a modern and functional wardrobe solution, featuring a mixture of storage options like hanging spaces, shelves, and drawers, along with an elegant touch to match the aesthetics of their home. The space was not only limited but also had structural features like angled ceilings and a narrow doorway, which required us to design a custom solution that would enhance the room without making it feel cramped.

The client’s vision was clear: they wanted a blend of both practical storage and a visually appealing design, with special emphasis on the finishes, ensuring it complemented the rest of their home decor. The key was to transform a small, utilitarian room into a sanctuary that was as much about style as it was about functionality.

Our Solution / Project Description:

To bring the client’s vision to life, we approached the project with a focus on custom, space-saving solutions, keeping both form and function in mind. Our team of expert designers and craftsmen worked collaboratively with the client, taking their requirements and translating them into a beautiful, tailored walk-in wardrobe design.

Space Planning & Design

We started by taking precise measurements of the room and sketching out several design concepts that would best optimize the available space. The design incorporated a combination of different hanging storage types—long hanging, short hanging, and double hanging sections—allowing the client to store everything from long dresses and coats to shirts and pants, all within easy reach. A mix of open shelving units was also included, which allowed the client to display shoes, accessories, and handbags.

The client had a preference for an elegant and contemporary aesthetic, so we included luxurious details, such as a set of custom-designed drawers with stylish gold handles that added a touch of glamour and sophistication. These drawers were designed with deep compartments for folded clothes, accessories, and jewelry, helping to maintain organization and order. To enhance the overall feel of the wardrobe, we incorporated a mirrored panel on the gable end of the unit, giving the room a sense of space and light. The mirror reflected the beauty of the wood and the unique design elements, creating a welcoming and airy atmosphere in the otherwise small room.

Customization & Attention to Detail

Given the room’s layout, we were also tasked with working around an angled ceiling and a small doorway. This required custom-fitting shelves and storage units to ensure no space was wasted. We crafted bespoke shelving to fit into the awkward angles and tight corners of the room, ensuring that every inch of space was used efficiently.

To further maximize storage, we integrated pull-out drawers beneath hanging sections for extra functionality. The shelves were designed to be adjustable, giving the client the flexibility to change the layout of the space as their needs evolved over time.

As part of our solution, we paid careful attention to the quality of the materials we used. The result was a luxurious, yet highly practical walk-in wardrobe that exceeded the client’s expectations, making the most of the limited space while providing plenty of room for all their clothing, accessories, and shoes.

Wood Used

For this particular project, we carefully selected materials that combined durability, aesthetic appeal, and functionality.

Lissa Oak for Interior Finish
The interior of the wardrobe features a high-quality Lissa Oak veneer, chosen for its warm, natural tones and subtle grain patterns. Lissa Oak is a durable wood that adds a touch of elegance to any space. Its light, neutral color made it the perfect choice for this project, as it brightened up the room and provided a soft, warm backdrop that complemented the modern design elements.

Lissa Oak’s smooth texture and rich hue contrasted beautifully with the sleek gold hardware, giving the walk-in wardrobe a balanced, refined look. The veneer was carefully applied to all surfaces, ensuring a flawless finish. Its unique wood grain also provided an added layer of visual interest, making the space feel both upscale and welcoming.

High-Quality Materials for Longevity
In addition to the Lissa Oak, we used premium MDF (medium-density fibreboard) for the structural components of the wardrobe. This material offers strength, stability, and durability, ensuring the longevity of the wardrobe. The MDF was then finished with a high-quality lacquer to create a smooth, easy-to-maintain surface that resists scratches and stains, making it the perfect choice for a high-traffic area like a walk-in wardrobe. The gold handles we used were sourced from a premium supplier, ensuring that every detail of the wardrobe was executed with precision. These handles were carefully chosen not only for their functionality but also for the sophisticated aesthetic they added to the drawers and doors.
