Requirements / The Challenge:

In this project located in Killaloe, Co. Clare, the client sought a custom wardrobe solution that would span the full width of the room, while integrating a dressing table and makeup area. The room featured a central chimney breast, creating a structural challenge that needed to be incorporated seamlessly into the design. The client’s primary goal was to make the most of the available space, utilizing the full wall for storage and functionality without compromising the room’s aesthetic appeal.

The client wanted a wardrobe system that would offer a combination of long and short hanging space, along with drawers for clothing and accessories. Additionally, they requested an integrated dressing table with a makeup area, complete with lighting. The goal was to create a space where they could both store their clothing and get ready for the day in a well-organized, comfortable area.

The chimney breast posed a challenge in terms of layout, as it needed to be integrated into the wardrobe design without disrupting the functionality of the wardrobe. The client also desired a sophisticated, modern look that would add warmth to the room, incorporating elegant materials and a streamlined finish.

The solution needed to balance storage, style, and practicality—ensuring that the wardrobe would not only function as a clothing storage solution but also serve as a beautiful and functional dressing area.

Our Solution / Project Description:

At Walk In Wardrobes, we specialize in creating bespoke storage solutions tailored to our clients’ unique needs. For this project, we developed a comprehensive solution that not only maximized the space but also seamlessly integrated the wardrobe, dressing table, and makeup area into one cohesive design.

Given the structural challenge of the chimney breast, we took great care to ensure that every part of the design worked around this feature. Instead of trying to work around the chimney breast, we decided to make it part of the design. We cleverly covered the chimney breast with additional shelving to provide additional storage and to create a more cohesive look. The shelving was strategically placed around the chimney breast, ensuring that the storage was both functional and visually appealing. This created a continuous flow in the wardrobe area while still respecting the unique architecture of the room.

The wardrobe itself was designed with a mix of long and short hanging sections, ensuring that the client could easily store both longer garments like dresses and coats, as well as shorter items such as shirts and jackets. We included a range of drawers to offer more storage for folded clothing, shoes, and accessories. The wardrobe also featured reclining clothes lifts, a particularly thoughtful feature for the client’s upper hanging space. These lifts allow for easy access to items that are typically difficult to reach, making the wardrobe more user-friendly and ensuring that the client could retrieve all of their clothing with ease.

One of the standout features of this wardrobe was the integrated dressing table, which we incorporated into the design in a way that feels both functional and luxurious. The dressing table was positioned centrally within the wardrobe, creating a natural flow from clothing storage to getting ready. The dressing table was designed with drawers for storing makeup, hair tools, and other personal items, making the area a perfect place for the client to prepare for their day. To add a touch of luxury and enhance the functionality of the space, we included a simple LED strip light above the mirror, which provided just the right amount of lighting for makeup application and daily grooming.

The wardrobe doors were crafted using a combination of cappuccino glass and mirror, framed in our signature Evoke Silver Frame. The cappuccino glass gives the wardrobe a warm and inviting feel, while the mirror panels add a touch of glamour and sophistication. The horizontal decorative strip running across the doors further elevated the design, giving the wardrobe a sleek and modern appearance. The combination of these materials ensured that the wardrobe was both practical and aesthetically pleasing, blending seamlessly with the room’s decor.

By carefully considering the layout and incorporating thoughtful design elements, we were able to create a wardrobe that not only solved the practical challenges of the space but also enhanced the overall look and feel of the room. The cappuccino glass and mirror materials provided a timeless, elegant finish that complemented the client’s modern yet cozy aesthetic, making the wardrobe a standout feature in the room.

This project demonstrates our ability to create custom wardrobes that blend storage, functionality, and design, no matter how complex the room layout may be. We took into account the client’s needs and preferences and delivered a truly bespoke solution that transformed their space into a well-organized, beautiful dressing area.

Wood Used

In this project, we carefully selected a mix of high-quality materials to create a sophisticated and functional wardrobe. The interior of the wardrobe was constructed using white interior timber, providing a fresh, clean look that brightened up the entire space. The white timber created a light and airy atmosphere, helping to open up the room and make it feel more spacious. The light color of the timber also offered a neutral backdrop, allowing the other design elements—such as the cappuccino glass and mirror—to stand out and create a visually appealing contrast. For the surround of the wardrobe, we used stone grey timber, a beautiful and contemporary finish that provided depth and sophistication. The stone grey surround added an element of warmth to the design, helping to balance the lighter interior timber and create a harmonious, cohesive look. The grey tones of the surround worked perfectly with the warm cappuccino glass and mirror, adding a modern yet timeless touch to the overall design. The combination of white interior timber and stone grey surround not only created an elegant contrast but also ensured that the wardrobe was durable and long-lasting. Both materials were selected for their quality and sustainability, ensuring that the wardrobe would stand up to everyday use while maintaining its beauty over time. The choice of wood in this project contributed significantly to the overall feel of the room. The lightness of the white timber interior made the space feel larger and more open, while the stone grey surround added a sense of sophistication and warmth. This combination of materials created a wardrobe that was both functional and visually striking, blending seamlessly with the rest of the room’s decor.
