Requirements / The Challenge:

This project in Dingle, Co. Kerry, presented a unique set of challenges due to the need for a wardrobe system that could efficiently utilize the space while also maintaining a clean, uncluttered aesthetic. The room where the wardrobe was to be installed had some specific limitations, especially in terms of space configuration. The clients wanted a bespoke solution that would make the most of the available space, without overcrowding the room or affecting its flow.

One of the main challenges was the angled wall of the room, which required us to design a customized angle unit within the sliding wardrobe system. The goal was to use the slanted wall efficiently, but without making the wardrobe feel too bulky or intrusive in the room. Additionally, the clients wanted to incorporate a variety of storage options, including drawers, hanging space, and shelving, without sacrificing the room’s overall sense of openness.

Furthermore, the clients also expressed an interest in adding a hinged wardrobe to complement the sliding wardrobe, which created another challenge in terms of integrating both systems in a way that would be functional, cohesive, and stylish. We needed to maximize storage while ensuring that both wardrobes blended seamlessly into the room’s décor.

Our Solution / Project Description:

At WalkInWardrobes.ie, we pride ourselves on creating tailored wardrobe solutions that meet our clients’ specific needs. For this project in Dingle, we developed a design that maximized storage capacity while maintaining the aesthetic balance of the room.

1. Sliding Wardrobe with Custom Angle Unit:

The first part of the project involved creating a 2-door sliding wardrobe, with one section featuring a custom angle unit to fit the room’s slanted wall. The slanted wall presented a challenge, as we needed to design the unit in such a way that it would not feel cramped or disrupt the flow of the space. We achieved this by designing the sliding wardrobe with well-planned shelving, hanging rods, and drawers that took full advantage of the available space without overwhelming the room. The sliding doors of the wardrobe were finished with cappuccino glass, which added a sense of warmth and sophistication to the design.

To enhance the look and functionality, we incorporated a horizontal decorative strip across the doors. This strip not only served an aesthetic purpose, providing a clean and modern look, but also helped to break up the solid expanse of glass, giving the wardrobe an elegant and structured appearance. We finished the sliding doors with our Evoke Champagne frame, a subtle yet luxurious choice that added a touch of refinement without overpowering the rest of the room.

2. Hinged Wardrobe with Full Frame Shaker Doors:

Next, we tackled the design of the hinged wardrobe. The key feature of this wardrobe was the full frame shaker doors, which were designed to incorporate mirrors for both aesthetic and functional purposes. The mirrored panels provided the clients with a full-length mirror in a convenient location, which not only serves the functional purpose of dressing but also added a sense of depth and light to the room.

We wanted the hinged wardrobe to have a classic, timeless appeal, so we chose to work with the shaker style doors. This design is well-known for its clean lines and versatile, understated elegance. The shaker doors were crafted with the highest attention to detail, and the mirrored panels were seamlessly integrated into the design, ensuring that they enhanced the space rather than dominating it.

3. Reclining Close Lift with Shoe Storage:

To further increase the storage options in the hinged wardrobe, we included an innovative reclining close lift. This lift mechanism allowed for easy access to items stored at the top of the wardrobe, while also incorporating storage at the bottom for shoes. This clever design feature made it easy for the client to store a large number of shoes, keeping them organized and easily accessible while avoiding clutter. The reclining close lift was both a practical and space-saving solution, making it easier to store and retrieve items while maintaining an elegant and polished look.

4. Dressing Table:

As part of this bespoke wardrobe solution, we also integrated a dressing table into the design. The dressing table was placed in a convenient location within the wardrobe area, creating a dedicated space for the client to sit and relax while preparing for the day. This thoughtful addition not only added practicality but also elevated the luxury feel of the space. The dressing table provided a space to apply makeup, style hair, or simply have a moment of personal care in a beautifully designed and private setting.

5. Materials & Finish:

In terms of materials, we used a stone grey finish for the interior, which complemented the cappuccino glass sliding doors. The stone grey created a sophisticated yet neutral backdrop for the wardrobe’s storage units, ensuring that the design felt both modern and timeless. The use of stone grey provided a sleek contrast against the Evoke Champagne frame, which added a luxurious touch to the overall look.

The cappuccino glass doors, combined with the horizontal decorative strip, helped to bring a sense of refinement and style to the sliding wardrobe, while the full frame shaker doors with mirrors in the hinged wardrobe created a beautiful and functional element in the design. Together, these design choices blended seamlessly to create a wardrobe system that was both highly functional and visually striking, perfectly suited to the clients’ needs and style preferences.

6. Overall Design and Integration:

One of the most important aspects of this project was the seamless integration of both the sliding wardrobe and the hinged wardrobe. We ensured that both wardrobe systems complemented each other while maintaining their own distinct functions. The sliding wardrobe maximized the use of space, while the hinged wardrobe added a timeless, elegant touch with its mirrored panels and shaker doors. The wardrobes were positioned in a way that optimized room layout, ensuring that the space was open and free of clutter.

We worked closely with the client throughout the design process to ensure that every aspect of the wardrobe met their needs, from the custom angle unit to the dressing table and the shoe storage lift. The result was a luxurious, functional space that was customized to their exact specifications.

Wood Used

In terms of materials, we used stone grey laminate for the interior of the wardrobe, which offered a clean, modern aesthetic while maintaining a sense of warmth. The stone grey color was chosen to complement the cappuccino glass sliding doors, creating a harmonious balance between the storage units and the exterior design. The shaker doors on the hinged wardrobe were finished in the same stone grey to match the interior, while the mirrored panels added a luxurious touch that increased both the visual space and functionality of the design. The Evoke Champagne frame added a subtle, elegant finish to the doors, creating a beautiful contrast with the stone grey finish. The frame was carefully chosen to reflect the luxury and quality of the wardrobe while maintaining a neutral tone that complemented the overall room décor.
