To meet the client’s needs, WalkInWardrobes.ie designed a custom solution that blended practical storage with sleek design. We chose to install a 3-door sliding wardrobe that maximized the use of the available wall space, offering ample storage without making the room feel cramped. Here’s how we approached the design and installation:
Full-Length Wardrobe with Sliding Doors
The decision to opt for sliding doors was a practical one. Sliding doors take up less space than traditional hinged doors, which was important for maintaining the open feel of the room, especially in a bungalow where space can sometimes be limited. The wardrobe was designed to stretch the full length of the wall, making use of every inch of available space. This gave the clients a generous amount of storage while avoiding the bulkiness that hinged doors would have added.
Elegant Door Finishes
The wardrobe doors were a focal point of the design. To achieve the sophisticated look the client wanted, we selected two pearl white glass doors with a horizontal stripe of cappuccino to add a touch of elegance and contrast. These doors created a light-reflecting surface that brightened the room and complemented the neutral tones in the bedroom. The combination of pearl white glass with the subtle cappuccino stripe was a perfect balance of modern and timeless.
The third door of the wardrobe was designed as a full-length mirror, which served not only as a functional element but also as a design feature. The mirror door made the room feel more spacious and added a sense of openness to the bedroom. The mirror allowed the clients to check their appearance while also creating an illusion of depth, which was particularly useful in a space that was not overly large.
The doors were finished in our Evoke Champagne frame, which added a refined, understated touch to the wardrobe. The champagne frame was paired with Lissa Oak surrounds, a material known for its warm, natural tones. This combination of finishes brought warmth to the space while maintaining a contemporary feel that suited the client’s style.
Relocating the Light Switch
One of the unique challenges of this project was the light switch that was positioned where the wardrobe’s depth would interfere. To resolve this, we worked with the client to relocate the switch to a more convenient location, making sure it was accessible and still within reach. The switch was placed on the filler panel of the wardrobe, allowing us to maintain the integrity of the design while also ensuring that the wardrobe functioned as intended. This was a small detail but an essential one to ensure that the wardrobe fit perfectly within the space without compromising on usability.
Maximized Interior Storage
Inside the wardrobe, we focused on creating an organized, efficient space that allowed the clients to keep their belongings tidy. We used a combination of hanging rails, shelves, and drawers to create flexible storage options for different types of clothing. The interior was finished in a clean, white melamine surface that enhanced the room’s light and airy atmosphere. The white interior contrasted nicely with the Lissa Oak surround, creating a harmonious balance between the interior and exterior finishes.
- Hanging Storage: The wardrobe was divided into sections for long hanging items, such as dresses and coats, as well as short hanging sections for shirts, jackets, and pants. This dual approach maximized the wardrobe’s capacity while keeping the clothes organized and accessible.
- Shelving: Above the hanging sections, we included shelves for folded items, shoes, or accessories. This space allowed the clients to store additional clothing or personal items neatly while maintaining an organized, clutter-free appearance.
- Drawers: For smaller items like jewelry, scarves, or handbags, we incorporated soft-closing drawers that were easy to access and designed to keep everything tidy. The soft-close feature ensures that the drawers close smoothly and quietly, adding a touch of luxury to the design.
Attention to Detail
Every element of this wardrobe was carefully considered, from the frame finish to the door handles. The Evoke Champagne frame was chosen for its luxury finish and ability to complement the other elements in the room. The Lissa Oak surrounds added a subtle warmth, while the mirror door helped reflect light and create the illusion of space. We also added a subtle architrave switch to the filler panel, seamlessly integrating the relocated light switch into the design without disrupting the wardrobe’s clean lines.
In terms of functionality, we made sure that the wardrobe was not only aesthetically pleasing but also easy to use. The sliding doors allowed the clients to access the full width of the wardrobe without taking up unnecessary space, and the soft-close mechanisms on the drawers and doors ensured a smooth, quiet operation.
